Why Are Microgreens So Expensive Compared to Vegetables?

Posted on May 3, 2021

Microgreens are small, edible sprouts that can be grown in just about any garden. You can grow them from seeds indoors or you can buy them in a sprout bag at the store. What makes them so expensive is that they are usually only available at farmer’s markets where organic produce is sold. Because they come in a limited amount of sprouts, it’s not possible to make more at home. Most people choose to buy them at the market because they are smaller and they taste better. People who like eating healthy food should consider growing their own microgreens because they taste much better than purchasing them at the store.

The reason they are so pricey is that it takes more work to grow a larger quantity of microgreens. The sprouts must be picked at the peak of their growth to ensure that the flavor isn’t lost along the way. The sprouts also have to be picked right before they sprout to ensure that the true leaves have not been destroyed. True leaves are fragile and break easily. The true leaves take twice as long to sprout as the micro green sprouts.

While buying at the store is cheaper, eating real, fresh micro greens is a healthier choice. When you eat real leaves, they are full of essential vitamins and minerals. Many of these vitamins and minerals are beneficial to our health. When you eat microgreens that are made with sprouted true leaves, you get all the benefits of eating them without having to pay a lot of money for them.

By growing your own micro green sprouts, you avoid wasting food. When you buy microgreen sprouts in a bag, you are taking a lot of food away from the plants. When the plants are grown on a small piece of land, they can eat about a pound of food per day. When you grow true leaves on a small piece of land, it takes about three pounds of food per day.

You can save a lot of money by growing your own fresh vegetables. You won’t have to pay for vegetables like tomatoes, zucchini, and green beans, which can be very expensive. You can feed your plants instead of buying them in the stores. Saving money on food will improve your quality of life.

When you are eating real leaves, you are reducing your intake of pesticides, herbicides, and other chemicals. These chemicals are bad for your health. In addition, when you make your own micro green sprouts, you are getting all the nutrition that they offer, which means that your plants will be healthy. If you make your own microgreens, you will find yourself eating healthy real leaves over time.
