What Is the Market For Microgreens?

Posted on June 27, 2021

There are two ways that gardeners can market for microgreens. One way is to grow them in their own gardens and another way is to sell them to local restaurants. There is money to be made selling these small blueberries to restaurants but only if there is an active market in the neighborhood and the grower places the extra effort to grow a quality product. Gardens that are planted without the intent to harvest can attract microgreens just as well as those that have been harvested. Some gardeners that have not fully developed their microgreen planting habits have not realized the amount of work it takes to keep them from growing too fast. Some gardeners that do plan on harvesting the microgreens do not put enough effort into making sure the plants are getting all the sunlight they need.

Gardeners that have planted microgreens that are not getting full sun may think that they will not be sold because of the flavor. But no one wants to buy microgreens that are off color or have an unusual color. It is important for a gardener to make sure that they are planting microgreens that are ready to eat. When a store clerk thinks that a fruit is ready to eat he will leave it on the shelf. It is his job to sell the produce in the store.

Another niche market for growing microgreens is in the restaurants that serve the tiny blueberries that are part of this berry. The microgreen juice that is created from growing microgreens has a very strong flavor. It goes great with sausages, small cuts of meat and hot dogs. It is a distinct flavor that cannot be duplicated any other way. Because of the way it is made it is often served cold.

There is even more opportunity for the global market for microgreens. There are several brands of organic blueberries that are being imported to the north America market. The demand for these berries is increasing in response to the growing demand in North America. It will take some time for the demand in the north America market to catch up but the opportunities are there for it.

When the demand for microgreens goes down people will turn to the nutritional value of the tiny blueberries. The nutritional value is important to the rising trends of food allergies in our society. Microgreens are not going to go away because the culinary trend in America right now is to eat healthier. Americans are making the change to avoid foods that have been associated with food allergies.

The second major market trend is for indoor growing. Many people are growing their own vegetables because it is easier than having them shipped in from other countries. Growing microgreens inside the home is also a good idea because they can be easily stored during the winter when there are winter storms. There are a few different indoor growing techniques that are used to ensure the quality of the plants being grown.

Growing microgreens is an interesting topic that many people have come to understand. There is a very big shift happening in the world of farming and food because of environmental concerns. Global warming and concerns with creating energy alternatives are changing the type of crops farmers are able to grow. Greenhouse growing microgreens is a way to get into the new wave of eating locally grown foods.
