How Healthy Are Microgreens?

Posted on May 13, 2021

Microgreens have become a popular choice for food in the last few years. For many people, microgreens are a healthy way to eat as they help to reduce weight, cleanse the body and provide nutrients that cannot be found in many other foods.

The name “microgreens” originated from the fact that they are small, green like a red bell pepper and are usually harvested at about the same time as the seeds of the vegetable. The seed is what gives them their shape, but the majority of the plant is edible including the leaves and the red-purple fruit.

Microgreens are known to contain much more dietary fiber than other vegetables. In addition, microgreens contain many vitamins and minerals that would not be present in other vegetables including antioxidants and essential fatty acids.

The nutritional benefits of microgreens are numerous. They are rich in phytonutrients and other beneficial substances that help the body digest food better, they promote proper digestion, reduce gas and bloating, strengthen the immune system and help the body to absorb necessary nutrients.

Microgreens are often referred to as blueberries because they are similar in appearance. Although they have different textures, both blueberries and microgreens are small in size and taste great when eaten raw. They are sometimes coated with sugar, but most of the time they are just eaten as is.

Microgreens are sometimes referred to as goji berries as well. However, the differences between these two products can be misleading as microgreens are actually purple flowers that contain many nutrients that are not contained in blueberries. You can actually find blueberries in the wild without even knowing it.

Blueberries can be found in the wild or purchased in many stores. Be sure to read the labels on the package and use it only as a guide. Before you begin planting, be sure that the seeds are dead.

Wild microgreens are usually much bigger and may contain several different types of seeds. Alternatively, many farmers will plant a seedling and remove the other seedlings. Plants that are removed may not be of the same variety and in turn may have slightly different qualities.

There are some ways to tell which seedlings are which and these include the amount of yellow. Yellow signifies that the plant is high in nutrition. The best part about buying seedlings is that you can grow a large supply of them at one time and because it is a smaller amount, the price is less expensive than with wild microgreens.

When selecting seeds for your microgreens, pick those that are firm and have a good firmness level to them. These seeds should also be a color that can be described as purple. The most common colors are red, purple and blue.

A common question among consumers is which is better, organic or conventional? The truth is that there is no difference. Whether it is organic or conventionally grown, both products have the same nutritional value.

Eating microgreens, and any other healthy foods will help the body detoxify and cleanse. They are great for maintaining your regular cardiovascular health and they can help to fight disease such as cancer. By choosing to consume healthier foods, you are helping to maintain a healthy lifestyle and can improve your overall health.
