Do You Need Special Seeds For Microgreens?

Posted on May 13, 2021

Growing microgreens is a fun project for those interested in new plants. It is quite simple to learn the basics and can be fun to see how much difference one tiny plant can make in your garden.

They can survive in a container full of soil but prefer the dry outdoors in areas that receive some sunlight. If you have not tried growing microgreens you are in for a treat because they are easy to grow, inexpensive, rewarding and very tasty.

Start with about four ounces of clay or peat moss in each of two large pots for starters. You can use organic material, but it will take longer for your microgreens to start growing. It takes a lot of time and work to grow microgreens, so you should expect to use a lot of pots and nutrients to get them going.

There are several types of seedling kits on the market that can help you with this. There are also kits that can grow microgreens even when you are not in the mood for gardening. This is a great way to get started with the microgreens and you can buy these kits from almost any nursery or garden store. Below are some of the microgreens growing kits available from Amazon.com too.

These kits can usually be found at nurseries that sell seedlings. You can go there and buy a kit that has everything you need to begin growing microgreens. If you are only interested in one type of microgreens there are kits that are tailored to that type.

Seedlings that have been prepared to be ready to be planted on a garden bed. This is great for people who want to try out planting but do not have the time to care for seedlings that are ready to go into the ground. Once you have selected your kit to make sure you know what type of microgreens you are wanting to plant.
Once you know the type of microgreens you want to plant you should start thinking about what type of soil to use. This will depend on where you live and the climatic conditions in which you live. The biggest factor that needs to be considered when planting seeds is whether the seeds will survive.

What is your climate like? How cold do you live in? Is your area generally hot or cold? What sort of soil do you live in?

If you have answered these questions correctly, you have already begun the process of determining whether or not you need special seeds for microgreens? You may also be looking at the process of planting seeds and finding out that your region has an exceptionally warm spring, so you may need to find seeds that can survive the temperature change of the spring.

Another thing to consider is whether or not you need a place to water your seeds. If your climate is extremely hot, you will need to water your seeds well to ensure that they have the opportunity to germinate.

Once you have determined what you need for your seedlings, you can start planning the rest of the things that you need. In addition to the pots and soil you will need some help getting the seedlings to the desired location. You will need help from a neighbor to pull the seedlings from the ground, get them in their beds and place them in the pots and soil.

The last step of getting the seedlings started is watering them. The seedlings need a lot of water in order to survive and once they are in the pots you can water them until they are fully grown and ready to be harvested.
