An Easy Tips For Growing Your Own Microgreens

Posted on May 13, 2021

“Why are microgreens so expensive?” is a question that many home gardeners ask. You know, those perennial and biennial gardeners who will grow anything they can get their hands on – the “big kids” who simply refuse to listen to the warnings of gardening experts, even after repeated admonishments.

This is the same group of gardeners who were so excited when the New York Times Magazine featured the growing popularity of “microgreens.” They were ready to go out and pick up one of the products, whether they actually wanted to or not. And believe me, they did!

Microgreens are a great way to add a special flavor to your salads. Most people agree that their fresh flavor is much more flavorful than a pre-packaged salad dressing. Plus, you can put a lot more vegetables into a salad, as well as serve it with bread.

What do people love about microgreens? Well, they’re super cheap. As a matter of fact, many stores and companies sell them for as low as a quarter of a cup, which is incredibly cheap.

With such a low price, you can also justify the price tag, right? Right! Why is this? Simply because they’re in large amounts and you could be losing money on them!

But you don’t have to worry about that, as you may have guessed, because there’s a pretty good tip to follow. If you get them as a bulk, you won’t be paying for each micro green you grow. All you need to pay for is the time it takes to do your planting.

Here’s the scoop on buying these as a bulk: They are cheap because they’re in large quantities, so by buying in bulk, you could end up saving a lot of money.

So, what’s the secret to super cheap? The answer lies in the fact that they take up a lot of space.

Just think about it; if you were to purchase any number of garden plants, you could probably use them in your garden. Microgreens, however, are relatively small, and in many cases, are kept in tiny containers, too. That means they take up a lot of space.

With a tiny space and huge pot, you might just wonder why are microgreens so expensive? Answer: Because they are priced more expensive than other types of garden plants. Even though they are fairly cheap, they still are priced higher than most garden plants.

Also, because of their size, they are more susceptible to being damaged by the elements, as compared to regular garden plants. If you are going to put them in a container, remember that you don’t want to place them in the bottom of the container, but instead, you want to put them in the middle.

Love them or hate them, they are coming into their own. With their numerous benefits, like their ease of cultivation, their easy growing qualities, their relatively cheap prices, and of course, their beautiful, fresh flavor, microgreens will make great additions to any garden.
